POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – On Thursday night, Michelle Gaye is set to make history when she competes in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA East Regional Championship meet in Jacksonville, Florida on Thursday night.
Gaye is the first athlete in Marist women's track & field history to qualify for NCAA Regionals in any event. The 10,000-meter race is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on Thursday at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.
Gaye's qualifying time of 34:20.07, set at the Stanford Invitational on April 3, was the 24th best in the East Region this year. Due to the number of athletes who have declared for the event, Gaye will be #17 seed in the championship.
The race will serve as a national semifinal, with the top 12 runners in the East and West Regions advancing to the NCAA Championships, which will take place from June 10-13 at the University of Oregon.
