PENNINGTON, New Jersey – The Marist College men's cross country team placed second out of 10 schools at the Rider Invitational on Saturday morning at Rosedale Park, site of the 2015 MAAC Cross Country Championships next month.
The Red Foxes trailed only Monmouth, which won the meet with 42 points; Marist finished with 65 points. The Red Foxes finished ahead of MAAC teams from Quinnipiac (111 points), Siena (111 points), Fairfield (207 points), Manhattan (208 points) and St. Peter's (318 points).
Senior Johnny Lee led the Red Foxes with a second-place finish of 24:48.83, a personal-best cross country time. The Red Foxes had a tight scoring pack behind him, with sophomore Dietrich Mosel next in 25:05.97 (14th overall), junior captain Spencer Johnson in 15th in 25:07.45, freshman Riley Hughes (18th, 25:10.37) and junior Brian Edsall (20th, 25:14.19). The top-5 scoring pack all ran personal-best times and finished within 25.4 seconds of each other.
In addition, the chase pack of freshman Palmer Weimann (25:25.02), freshman Matt Baffuto (25:25.19), sophomore Steven Rizzo (25:25.36), senior Pat Rynkowski (25:35.63) and sophomore Joseph Miller (25:38.70) all ran personal-best cross country times on what was a solid day for the Running Red Foxes.
The cross country team returns to action next Saturday at the Ted Owen Invitational, hosted by Central Connecticut State University.
