Men's Track And Field Demolishes SMR Record

STATEN ISLAND, New York - The Marist College men's track team completed the 2016 calendar year in record-breaking fashion, demolishing the school record in the sprint medley relay en route to a first-place finish in the event Friday afternoon at the Wagner Seahawk Shootout, held at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

The team of senior captain Tim Johnson, sophomore Andrew Burns, sophomore Brian Henderson and freshman Zachary Ropes took first place in 3:33.93, eclipsing the previous mark of 3:42.82, which was set in 2010 and then tied in 2014. Johnson bolted out of the blocks with a 200-meter split of 22.8 seconds. He handed off to Burns, who posted a 23.6-second 200-meter split. Henderson ran the 400-meter split in 51.5 seconds and Ropes brought home the victory with an 800-meter split of 1:55.90. Other highlights from the meet included:

--Earlier in the day, Johnson set a personal-best time in the rarely-run 300-meter dash. He was 12th in 36.26 seconds.

--Anthony Colasanto and Matthew Hawker ran personal-best times in the 1,000-meter run.

--Eamonn Burns had a personal-best time in the mile run.

--Connor Levins notched a personal-best time in the 3,000-meter run.

The Red Foxes return to action Saturday, January 14, at the Yale Collegiate Invitational.
