Licursi Competes at National Championship in Racewalk

NEW YORK, New York -- Junior Kristi Licursi will compete in the national championship racewalk event at the NYRR Millrose Games on Satuday at the Armory Track and Field Complex at 12:25 PM. Licursi will be the only collegiate athlete competing in the event and is the first Marist athlete to compete in the Millrose Games since the men's track 4x800 relays ran in the games in both 2005 and 2006.

Race walking is an event contested in all levels of the sport of track & field, from youth athletics up to and including the Olympic Games, however is not a recognized collegiate event. It combines the endurance of the long distance runner with the attention to technique of a hurdler or shot putter. Since the event involves less impact, the technically demanding event continues to grow in popularity across the younger and older age groups for its fitness and competitive aspects. Athletes must keep one foot on the ground at all times and their back leg must be locked while competing.

The Millrose Games can be watched live on USATF.TV from 12-4 PM or the NBC Sports Network from 4-6 PM.
