Marist Runners Compete in Walkway Marathon

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Red Foxes had a large turnout for the 2nd Annual Walkway Over the Hudson Marathon which was held on Sunday morning.

“Marist is very proud to host the 2nd Annual Walkway over the Hudson Marathon” said Marist College Executive Vice President Geoffrey Brackett. “Community is part of our mission, handed down from the Marist brothers and we in all parts of the college engage as meaningfully as possible with the community and we think the marathon is a way to highlight the beauty of the Hudson River valley and the partnership across organizations such as the walkway and other partners who help to put this together. It's a great symbol of the region and is something we are pleased to host for the second consecutive year.”

“Marist College has always played a wonderful role in Dutchess County as a community and the Hudson River Valley and you can't have a walkway marathon without a beginning and an end” said Dutchess County Executive Mark Molinaro “Having Marist host the start and finish line is a wonderful opportunity to bring people from across the world down to the Marist campus on the Marist campus and on the majestic Hudson River. Add to that the great staff and support that we've gotten from Marist, they are a great partner and member in the community and have worked well with a number of partners to make the walkway marathon really special.”

Despite serving as the host for the race, Marist also had a huge presence in the three different races with roughly 60 alums and current student-athletes from the college's cross country and track and field teams as well as faculty and staff competing in the 5K, half marathon and marathon races which began and ended on campus at the Cornell Boathouse.
