POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist women's lacrosse team will host no. 7 Stony Brook in its home opener at 4 p.m. Feb. 21. The contest will be streamed live from Tenney Stadium on the Red Fox Network and live stats will be available.
Last Time Out
Marist suffered a one-goal loss at Army West Point on Feb. 11 to start the 2017 season. Freshman Samantha Mehalick led the way with four goals and four ground balls while sophomore Hailey Wagner finished with three goals on six shots. She also contributed three assists before she was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
The Red Foxes outshot the Black Knights 33-28 but went 4-for-10 on free position attempts.
Players To Watch
In her collegiate debut, Mehalick scored four goals in 15 minutes to propel the Marist offense at Army West Point. Sophomores Logan Boyle and Gabby Childrose stepped up on the defensive end in the season opener, as they each collected three ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers in the contest.
Scouting #7 Stony Brook
Stony Brook (2-0) is coming off a commanding 20-5 win over Bryant on Feb. 18. The Seawolves defeated no. 19 Towson in their season opener Feb. 4 when junior Kylie Ohlmiller fired the game-winning goal with four seconds remaining in the 10-9 affair. Ohlmiller notched 12 points on seven goals and five assists against Bryant to tally the second highest point total in Stony Brook history. As a team, Stony Brook set a new school record with 18 assists against the Bulldogs.
The Seawolves have won four straight America East Championships and have three NCAA Tournament wins since 2013, including their 11-9 victory against Boston College last year.
Looking Ahead
The Red Foxes will travel to Vermont for their next game at 12 p.m. Feb. 25. Marist has defeated the Catamounts by a goal in each of the last two meetings.
