WAPPINGERS FALLS, New York – The Marist women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play as they defeated the Rider Broncs 7-0 Thursday afternoon at the Cross Court Tennis Facility. The win moves Marist to 5-3 overall.
Starting with singles play, the Red Foxes jumped on the Broncs early with a win by Sophia Moeller at the fourth singles position over Danielle Scrudato, 6-0, 6-0. Elizabeth Brozovich would then make the overall match score 2-0 with a win over the Broncs' Kelli Swanson, 6-1, 6-0.
Ariel Shulman, playing from the no.1 singles position, defeated Vznessa Canda, 6-1, 6-3. Amy Galloway would clinch the match for Marist at the thirds singles spot with a win over Caitlin Gardner, 6-2, 6-1.
Claire Schmitz would win her match in straight sets and Callie Morlock claimed victory in her singles battle in three sets.
The Red Foxes would win at all three doubles positions to conclude the match. Shulman teamed up with Galloway to win 6-3, Schmitz paired with Morlock to win 6-4, and Moeller and Brozovich closed with a 6-4 victory at the third doubles spot.
Up next, Marist will play two matches in one day as they host Saint Peter's and Siena on Sunday, April 2nd. First set against the Peacocks will start at 11 a.m. with the matchup with the Saints to follow.
