EDISON, New Jersey - Marist women's lacrosse senior Abigail Witczak was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced April 10.
Witczak helped Marist pick up its first two conference wins of the season this past week. She made 16 saves on 33 shots faced in the Red Foxes' 16-9 triumph at Manhattan on April 5. Witczak allowed just four goals to Quinnipiac on April 8 and made five saves in the 10-4 Marist victory. In 120 minutes of work in the two games, she compiled a 6.50 goals against average and a .618 save percentage alongside four ground balls and a caused turnover. Her 21 saves came on 46 shots faced.
Playing every minute in goal for the Red Foxes this season, Witczak is the program's all-time leader in wins (36) and goals against average (10.04). She is 19 saves shy of becoming the fourth Marist goalie ever to reach the 500 mark for her career.
Marist will host Canisius in the second of a three-game home stand. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m. April 12. Witczak will be one of five players honored during the Red Foxes' Senior Day ceremony, which will take place prior to the 1 p.m. game against Fairfield on April 15.
