Jerla Named All-ECAC 2nd Team

DANBURY, Connecticut – Marist baseball junior left handed pitcher Charlie Jerla has been named to the All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Second Team the conference announced on Wednesday.

The award is the third postseason accolade for Jerla in 2017, who was also named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year as well as being named to the All-MAAC First Team.

In 12 starts this season, Jerla is 9-0 with a 3.92 ERA. In 64.1 innings pitched, he has given up 29 runs (28 earned) on 64 hits with 20 walks and 65 strikeouts for a 3.08 strikeout to walk ratio with a .258 batting average against. He had a season high 7 IP vs Indiana State (2/24), vs Albany (4/22), vs Rider (5/6) & at Fairfield (5/16) and had a career & team season high 13 Ks vs Albany (4/22).

The Red Foxes wrapped up the regular season with an overall record of 29-21, the most wins in a single season since 2011 (35), a 16-8 MAAC record which was the most conference wins for the team in one season since 2013 and qualified for the 2017 MAAC Championship as the #2 seed. The Red Foxes opened the conference tournament with a 6-2 win over #3 Canisius College on Thursday, an 11-8 win over #1 Fairfield on Friday and a 5-1 win over #4 Iona in the championship round to capture the program's sixth MAAC Championship and seventh berth into the NCAA Baseball Tournament.

Marist is headed to Gainesville, FL for the Gainesville Regional of the 2017 NCAA Tournament where they will open up against #3 Florida on Friday at 7 PM at Alfred A. McKethan Stadium at Perry Field. The game will be aired live on the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Network and WatchESPN. The Red Foxes will then face either the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats or South Florida Bulls on Saturday, pending results from each team's opening game.
