LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – A dominant team performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase event propelled the Marist College women's track team to a sixth-place finish out of 10 teams at the MAAC Outdoor Track Championships, held Saturday and Sunday at Rider University.
Fifth-year senior Nicki Nesi led the barrage of stellar scoring performances with a second-place finish. Nesi ran 10:36.48, which shattered the six-year-old school record of 10:43.41, set by Brittany Burns in 2011. It was also the third straight ECAC qualifying performance for Nesi in the event.
Freshman Alexandra Bartolotta was third in 10:51.99, narrowly missing the ECAC standard in the event. Other scorers included Jordan Casey (fifth in a personal-best time of 11:06.56) and Emily Burns, sixth in 11:14.35.
Danisha Craig was the only other individual scorer for the Red Foxes, placing fifth in the 400-meter dash in 58.43 seconds. The 1,600-meter relay team of Molly Weeks, Debbie Boerke, Jenn Horner and Craig placed fourth in 4:00.68. The 3,200-meter relay team of Shea Bohan, Denise Grohn, Emily Franko and Emily Burns placed fifth in 9:31.57.
The Red Foxes placed sixth with 34 points, edging out Siena, Canisius, St. Peter's and Niagara.
Marist also had a conference leading 31 student athletes named to the 2017 MAAC All-Academic Team. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have completed two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. The Red Foxes' All-Academic Team selections were Hannah Albert, Deborah Boerke, Shea Bohan, Emily Burns, Courtney Cartwright, Jordan Casey, Mariah Christian, Kerry-Anne Flynn, Emily Franko, Christine Gambell, Kerry Gaye, Shannon Gildea, Brynn Gorberg, Annie Gould, Alex Hernandez, Jenn Horner, Jessica Howe, Alyssa Hurlburt, Kristi Licursi, Katherine Miale, Nicki Ness, Roxanne Novo, Fallon Quigley, Jenna Robinson, Mara Schiffhauer, Janele Solviletti, Erick Stewart, Lauren Traina, Brianne Vess, Elizabeth Wasserman and Molly Weeks.
