EDISON, New Jersey – The Marist women's soccer team has been tabbed for fifth place in the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) preseason coach's poll, as voted on by the league's eleven head coaches.
The Red Foxes finished the 2016 season at 10-9-1 overall and 5-4-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. After defeating Rider, 1-0, in double overtime in the Red Foxes' quarterfinal game, Marist returned to the conference semifinals for the first time since 2012.
Marist was slated to finish 5th in last season's preseason poll and ended up finishing the season in sixth place. The year before the Red Foxes were picked to finish 10
th and exceeded that mark by finishing the season in third.
The four-time defending MAAC women's soccer regular season champions, Monmouth University, was selected as the preseason favorite in 2017 while Monmouth sophomore forward Madie Gibson was voted as the Preseason Player of the Year.
Monmouth earned 120 points with 10 first place votes, followed by Quinnipiac, which earned 101 points. Rider University finished just behind the Bobcats with 96 points. Siena took the number four spot with 95 points as Marist rounded out the top five with 71 points.
Senior forward
Camille Bowen is the Red Foxes lone selection on the Preseason All-MAAC lineup. Bowen finished the season appearing in all 20 of the Red Foxes games while leading the team with 10 goals in her junior campaign.Â
The Red Foxes season opener is just days away as they start their non-conference schedule at home against Delaware State on Friday, August 18th at 7 p.m. Leading up to the season opener, the MAAC will broadcast the 2017 Men's and Women's Soccer Award Show on Tuesday, August 15h at 7 p.m. on MAAC.tv.
The 2017 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship takes places from October 28-November 1 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, FL. All 11 MAAC teams compete in the championship for the chance to be named the 2017 MAAC Women's Soccer Champion.
