TOWSON, Maryland – The Marist baseball team picked up its first series win and first back-to-back wins of the season with a 4-1 win at the Towson Tigers on Saturday.
SUMMARY:
For the third game in a row, the Red Foxes scored first when in the top of the second inning, redshirt junior
Jordan Roper led off with a single through the left side and advanced to second on a ground out. Freshman
Nick Cantone followed with an RBI double down the third base line that scored Roper and it was 1-0 Marist.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Tigers answered with a one out walk and a wild pitch that advanced the runner to second. After a second walk, a strikeout looking and a third walk loaded the bases, a fourth walk of the inning forced in the runner from third and tied the game at 1-1.
The game didn't remain tied for very long as the Red Foxes regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning. Redshirt senior
Greg Kocinski led off with a double to right field and junior
Frankie Gregoire followed with his second home run of the season, a two run shot to right field that have Marist a 3-1 lead.
One inning later, sophomore
Patrick Lightner walked, then stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error by the pitcher on a pickoff attempt. Junior
Anthony Lazar followed with an RBI single and the Red Fox lead was extended to 4-1.

Charlie Jerla's six inning, five hit and one run performance, redshirt senior
Tyler Dearden and senior
Mike Coss closed out the game for Marist on the mound, holding Towson scoreless in the seventh, eighth and ninth to give the Red Foxes the 4-1 win.

- Marist outhit the Tigers 9-6

- Jerla made his 35th career start to move into a tie for 10th place all-time in program history
- Coss's scoreless appearance gives him scoreless outings in 6 of his 7 appearances this season
- Dearden struck out a season high 4 batters in his 2 innings pitched
- Gregoire's home run was his 21st career dinger, moving him into a tie for 3rd place all-time in program history
- Lazar's 2 hits gives him a multi-hit game in his last three games played
- Roper's run scored gave him at least one run scored in the last three games
