GREENSBORO, North Carolina – The Marist baseball team led for the first three and a half innings but fell to the UNC Greensboro Spartans 11-1 on Friday afternoon.
SUMMARY:
The Red Foxes opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when junior
Frankie Gregoire smacked a one out solo home run to right field for the 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, the Spartans loaded the bases with two outs on a walk, single and walk but sophomore
Conor McNamara kept the lead for Marist, escaping the jam on a called strike three with a beautiful paint of the inside corner.
UNC Greensboro finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out, the Spartans put together a double and the runner advanced to third on a wild pitch during the next at bat. An RBI ground out to the second baseman scored the run and the game was even at 1-1.
One inning later, UNC Greensboro took their first lead of the day with a back-to-back one out singles, a two out walk to load the bases and after redshirt senior
Tyler Dearden replaced McNamara on the mound, a three RBI triple to right field gave the Spartans the 4-1 lead.
The offensive momentum continued for UNC Greensboro as it scored two, three and two runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings respectively to extend the lead to 11-1.

- UNC Greensboro batted .400 (16-for-40) in the game, while the Red Foxes batted .133 (4-for-30)
- The Spartans hit .444 (8-for-18) with runners in scoring position and Marist batted .250 (1-for-4)
GAME NOTES:
- Gregoire's home run was his first of the season and 20th of his career, moving him into sole possession of fourth place in program history and one behind third place (21).
- Both Gregoire and senior Matt Iantosca finished with two hits each, the second multi-hit game this season for both players
