POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Junior
Randy Taveras' bases loaded single in the bottom of the 10
th inning gave the Marist baseball team a 4-3 walk off win and its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series victory vs the Monmouth Hawks on Sunday at McCann Field.
With the win, the Red Foxes improve to 7-11 (2-1 MAAC).
SUMMARY:
Marist opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning when freshman
Reece Armitage led off with a single to center and junior
Anthony Lazar reached on a fielding error by the third baseman that advanced Armitage to third. Senior
Andrew Rouse followed with an RBI sac bunt that scored Armitage and advanced Lazar to second and junior
Frankie Gregoire laced an RBI single to left that scored Lazar to give the Red Foxes a 2-0 lead.
One inning later, a solo home run to by Armitage to right field gave Marist a 3-0 lead.
The Hawks got on the board in the top of the eight with a leadoff double to left field, before the runner advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on an RBI ground out to the shortstop to bring the score to 3-1 Red Foxes.
In the top of the ninth inning, Monmouth rallied to tie the game with a walk, single, a wild pitch, an RBI ground out and an RBI sac fly to left field.
The game then went to extra innings and in the bottom of the 10
th, redshirt senior
Greg Kocinski led off with a double to right center and freshman
Nick Cantone was hit by a pitch. Redshirt sophomore
Tyler Kapuscinski walked, redshirt junior
Jordan Roper was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Taveras smacked a game winning RBI single through the left side to give Marist the 4-3 walk off win.

- Sophomore Conor McNamara pitched five plus innings with surrendering a hit and finished with a career high 6.2 innings pitched and his first scoreless outing of the season
- Armitage's home run was the first of his career and his 2 hits and 2 runs scored marked a career high as well
- Rouse's 2 hits marked his 6th multi-hit game of the season
- Kocinski picked up his 8th multi-hit game of the year with 2 hits on the day
- Gregoire's 2 hits and 1 RBI marked his 8th game of the season with at least one hit and one RBI
- Kapuscinski extended his hitting streak to 4 games with a double on the day
- Taveras picked up his 5th game of the year with at least one hit and one RBI and has now hit safely in 10 of his 15 games played this season
