Women's Lacrosse Rolls Over Monmouth

The Red Foxes Hold Monmouth Scoreless in the Second Half

POUGHKEEPSIE New York – The Red Foxes delivered on both sides of the ball, shutting out Monmouth in the second half to take a 14-3 win at Tenney Stadium. Marist improves to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in MAAC play. Monmouth falls to 3-8 and 1-1 in conference play.

Summary
The game started very evenly with both teams going back and forth and Monmouth scoring to tie it up 3-3 with ten minutes left in the first half. That goal proved to be the Hawk's last of the game as the Red Fox defense buckled down and shut the Hawks down the rest of the game. Samantha Mehalick, Hailey Wagner and Morgan Jaycox all added goals to take a 6-3 lead into the half.
With the defense playing so well, the offense was able to feed off its success and score. Marist scored three goals in the first five minutes of the second half. The Hawks had several opportunities to score on free position attempts but Delaney Galvin was phenomenal and held Monmouth to 0-9 on those shots.

Stats
  • Wagner led the scoring drive with six points from two goals and four assists and finished with a game high nine draw controls.
  • Jaycox and Mehalick also scored hatricks finishing with three and four goals respectively.
  • Jaycox was perfect from the 8 meter, going 3-3 on free position shots.
  • Galvin finished the day with 17 saves and a season high .850 save percentage.
Game Notes
  • Marist has not held a team scoreless in a half since its 11-1 win over Stetson in 2014.
  • Wagner moves into ninth in career assists with 43. Her four assists matches a career high and also led to her 100th career point.
  • The Red Foxes are now 3-5 in the series.
