Lacrosse Falls to La Salle

Mehalick and Jaycox Score Hat Tricks in Loss

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Samantha Mehalick and Morgan Jaycox each had hat tricks but the Red Foxes could not get enough going against a tough La Salle defense, falling 12-9 at McCarthy Stadium. The Red Foxes fall to 2-2 while the Explores improve to 2-2.

Summary
Samantha Mehalick got the Red Foxes on the board first, scoring in a little over a minute. Seconds later, Morgan Jaycox found the back of the net for the Red Foxes. The Explorers held the Red Foxes scoreless for the next 15 minutes and added a goal of their own during that time. Marist took its largest lead of the game off a free position goal from Lauren Mazza to bring the score to 4-1 with 13:08 left in the half. La Salle scored four unanswered goals to take its first lead of the day. Mehalick's free position goal tied it up again, but La Salle took a 7-5 lead into the second half thanks to a woman up and free position opportunity.

Both teams would be scoreless in the first six minutes of the second half thanks to good defenses on both ends. The Explorers finally broke the ice to go up three goals on the Red Foxes. Marist came within one after a goal from Camille Renaud brought the score to 8-7. After La Salle increased its lead to 9-7, Marist was unable capitalize on free position attempts and man-up situations to close the gap. La Salle scored two more goals and maintained a cushion the rest of the way.
