POUGHKEEPSIE, New York -- The Marist baseball team fell to the Fairfield Stags 7-5 in the final game of the series.
With the loss, the Red Foxes had an 11 game home win streak snapped and stand at 21-16 (10-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) on the year.
SUMMARY
The Stags jumped in front with three runs in the first. Kevin Radziewicz doubled to score Drew Arciuolo for the first run of the game, before Drew Blake doubled to score Radziewicz. This was then followed by a Dan Ryan single to chase Blake home, to give Fairfield and early 3-0 lead.
Fairfield added two more runs in the fifth inning when Radziewicz singled through the left side to score Jack Gethings and Blake hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Drew Arciuolo.
Marist got on the board with a solo home run by junior
Randy Taveras to left center in the bottom of the bottom of the inning to trim the deficit to 5-1.
The Stags responded by adding two more runs in the sixth. Tom Ryan hit an infield single to the shortstop that scored Tim Zeng and Arciuolo doubled to left center to chase home Ryan and extend the lead to 7-1.
For the second straight time, the Red Foxes answered in the bottom of the inning on two run home run by redshirt senior
Greg Kocinski, his team leading seventh homer of the season.
Marist made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth. After freshman
Reece Armitage reached base on an error and junior
Anthony Lazar walked, senior
Andrew Rouse singled to drive in Armitage. Two batters later, redshirt sophomore
Tyler Kapuscinski singled to score Lazar. The winning run would come to the plate in junior
Frankie Gregoire, but he hit a deep fly ball to left-center for a long third out and the Stags held on for the 7-5 win.
