DES MOINES, Iowa – Senior
Katherine Miale of the Marist women's track & field placed 11
th in the 20K racewalk at the United States Track & Field Championship on Friday night at Drake University. Miale posted a time of 2:01:07.87.
Competing under relatively mild conditions, with a temperature near 70 with a decent amount of humidity and an overcast sky, Miale started with an aggressive but manageable pace, according to Marist director of cross country/track & field Pete Colaizzo. The race consisted of 50 laps, with one only competitor in the race turning in a better time than her seed mark.
"Katie battled and showed a lot of mental toughness, especially over the seemingly endless second half of the race, when she easily could have bagged it," Colaizzo said. "She represented Marist extremely well. To have a Marist athlete at the national championship of our sport is a great thing, and we're proud that Katie was able to be here."
