Baseball Falls to East Carolina in Game One

Lazar Records Three Hits in Four At-Bats

GREENVILLE, North Carolina - Marist baseball (4-6) was able to hang with #14 East Carolina (10-5) for a large part of the game, but eventually fell behind as the Pirates scored three runs in the fifth to pull away.
 
SUMMARY
  • The Red Foxes and Pirates traded sparse hits in the first few innings. In the third, Marist had Matt Rubayo and Anthony Lazar on first and third with only one out, but East Carolina's Jake Agnos managed to close out the inning unscathed.
  • East Carolina got on the board with a sacrifice-fly in the fourth.
  • The Pirates scored three runs in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead.
  • East Carolina scored again in the sixth to go up 5-0.
  • In the eighth, Marist's Lazar and Taveras reached base with only one out, but the Pirates' Zach Barnes was able to prevent the Red Foxes from scoring and the two were left on base.
  • Matt Rubayo got a single in the ninth, but the Pirates were able to close out for the win.
