Women's Lacrosse Stops La Salle Comeback, Wins at Home

The Red Foxes Kept Composure After Giving Up an Early Lead

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist women's lacrosse defeated La Salle 12-11 in its return to Tenney Stadium Saturday afternoon. With the win, Marist moves to 3-3 on the season.
 
SUMMARY
  • Marist opened up the game on a 6-1 run, forcing a La Salle timeout with 17:31 left in the half. The first three goals of the game were all scored within a minute.
  • La Salle's offense got going and scored four more goals to close out the half. La Salle's Molly Loughlin was a force in the net with 14 saves in the first half and held Marist scoreless through the last 15 minutes of the half.
  • After not winning a single draw control in the first half, La Salle won the opening draw in the second half and scored to equalize. A goal minutes later would give the Explorers their first lead of the game.
  • Goals from Carly Grant, Kelly George and Samantha Mehalick put Marist up 9-7 with 17:49 left to play. La Salle would come back to reclaim the lead with 6:45 left in the game.
  • Mehalick took advantage of a women-up opportunity to take a 12-11 lead with 3:28 left in the game. La Salle won the ensuing draw, but turned the ball over and allowed the Marist offense to take possession the rest of the game.
 
STATS
  • Mehalick had five goals while Kelly George had five points from three goals and two assists.
  • Wagner had a season high 17 draw controls and helped Marist dominate the draw 18 to 7.
  • Jana Rothman had a team high four ground balls.
  • Marist outshot La Salle 45-27.
  • Loughlin finished the day with 20 saves.
 
NOTES
  • Marist picked up its first win against La Salle with the series now 1-3.
  • Hailey Wagner recorded her 400th career draw control
  • Carly Grant's three goals were a career high.
  • Samantha Mehalick is now fifth all-time in career goals.
