WEST LONG BRANCH, New Jersey - Marist men's tennis sustained its first MAAC loss of the season, as it dropped a 6-1 match to unbeaten Monmouth on Wednesday afternoon.

With the decision, the Red Foxes clinch the second seed in the 2019 MAAC Championships with a 5-1 MAAC record and 11-9 overall showing. The Hawks improve to 5-0 in the conference and nab the top spot in the tournament.

Christopher Gladden picked up the win in the #2 singles match, as he led 5-1 in the first set before the game was retired. The junior has been victorious in seven of his last nine singles contests, dating back to March 15.

Both sides fought hard for the doubles point, as Lars Schouten and Max Darrington edged Monmouth's Srdjan Jakovljevic and Alberto Giuffrida 7-6 (7-5). Gladden and John Oxner took the Hawks' Max Benaim and Sergio Martinez to a tiebreaker, but the Monmouth pair triumphed 7-6 (7-6).

In the #6 singles match, Kian Yazdi won the first set over Giuffrida 7-5 before falling 6-4 and 10-4 in the next two stanzas.

Marist will participated in the 2019 MAAC Championships at the Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Long Branch. The semifinals begin on Saturday, April 27 at 2:00 pm, while the championship is on Sunday, April 28 at 2:00 pm.
