Women's Lacrosse Dispatches Iona

Wagner and Mehalick have Career Days in the Win

NEW ROCHELLE, New York – Marist women's lacrosse wrapped up its regular season with a 15-10 win over Iona Saturday afternoon. During the win, Samantha Mehalick became the all-time leader in goals scored and Hailey Wagner recorded her 100th career goal. Marist improves to 7-9 overall and 4-4 in MAAC play.
 
SUMMARY
  • Despite winning the first three draw controls of the game, Marist was unable to capitalize and Iona scored on all three following possessions. After coming out of a time-out, Marist went on a 4-0 run. Both teams would trade goals until Marist's offense found its stride and scored three goals in under a minute to take a 9-6 lead into the half.
  • Marist continued the scoring run into the second half, scoring two more goals to go up 11-6. Iona would not score its first goal of the second half until eleven and a half minutes in.
  • Iona cut Marist's lead to 12-9 with over ten minutes left in the game, but Marist continued its scoring spree and Delaney Galvin stood tall in the net to walk away with the win.
STATS
  • Wagner and Mehalick each had six points to fuel the offense.
  • Galvin had 14 saves on the day.
  • Audrey Cerrone had a team high four ground balls to go with a hat trick.
  • Teams were near even in shots taken with Marist holding the edge at 32-31.
NOTES
  • Mehalick also had a career high three assists.
  • Marist leads the series 12-3.
UP NEXT
Marist will be the fifth seed in the MAAC Tournament. They will travel to #4 seed Manhattan College on Saturday, April 27.
