Marist Student-Athletes Turn In Strong Academic Performances

Six Teams Earn Cumulative GPAs Over 3.5, Six Student-Athletes Named Academic All-District In Fall Semester

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – In the Fall 2019 semester, Marist student-athletes once again earned several distinctions for their work in the classroom.
 
  • Student-athletes had a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.219 last semester.
  • A total of 24 student-athletes had a perfect 4.0 GPA.
  • Out of Marist's 598 student-athletes, 420 (70 percent) had at least a 3.0 GPA.
  • Of Marist's 23 Division I intercollegiate teams, 20 had a team GPA of at least 3.0, with six above 3.5.
  • Six student-athletes were named CoSIDA Academic All-District: Michael Lorello (men's soccer), Jillian Colucci (women's soccer), Grant Dixon (football), Jack Griffith (football), Megan Fergus (volleyball), and Skylar Harrison (volleyball).
  • Five Marist football players were named to Pioneer Football League (PFL) All-Academic Teams. Dixon, Griffith, and Andrew McElroy were named to the First Team. Seth Thompson and Matt Thomson were named to the Second Team. These are voted on by the league's sports information directors, and requires a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 with at least sophomore standing academically.
  • A total of 64 student-athletes were named to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Academic Teams in volleyball, men's and women's cross country, and women's and women's soccer. Women's cross country and volleyball led the MAAC with 16 and 11 honorees, respectively. The MAAC All-Academic Team is open to those who have spent at least two semesters at their institution while maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2.
  • Marist's four MAAC Student-Athletes of the Week were Rebekah Hand (women's basketball), John Hurley (men's swimming & diving), Alexa Svensson (women's soccer), and James Moehringer (men's cross country/track & field).
