WILLIAMSPORT, Pennsylvania – Marist Men's Tennis picked up wins in No. 5 and No. 6 singles from junior
Piotr Sowinski and sophomore
Augusto Gonzalez Bonorino, respectively, to stage a late comeback to down La Salle 4-3 on Saturday, February 22.
- The Explorers won the doubles point with victories in the first and third flights.
- Rogelio Sanchez and Connor Merrill blanked senior captain Chris Gladden and junior John Oxner 6-0, while Nassim Fenjiro and Andrija Bozovic dispatched Sowinski and sophomore Jack Sequerth 6-3.
- Senior captain Lars Schouten and junior Nestor Giribet Lopez were victorious in No. 2 doubles, beating Gage Sanchez and Colin Lucius 6-4.
- Sanchez pushed the La Salle lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Oxner in the fourth position.
- Gladden put Marist on the board with his first singles win of the season, defeating Merrill 6-0, 6-4 in the second flight.
- In the top flight, Schouten took care of Gonzalez 6-1, 7-5 to equalize the score at two.
- Fenjiro put the Explorers on top 3-2 from the third position, beating Giribet Lopez in three sets, 1-6, 6-0, 6-2.
- Sowinski tied the score once again when he beat Lucius 6-3, 7-5 out of the No. 5 card.
- With the sixth flight determining the winner, Gonzalez Bonorino handled Bozovic 6-2, 6-3.
- "Saturday was another total team effort, as the guys dug deep to come from behind for the win. La Salle took the doubles point, and following wins by Lars and Chris at first and second singles, we trailed 3-2. But Piotr played very tough at five, and then with the match on the line, and everyone watching, Augusto came through at six in straight sets to secure the win.
