POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist student-athletes and teams continued to achieve in the classroom in the Spring 2020 semester, one which included a switch to exclusively online learning in late March as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

All 23 of Marist's Division I programs achieved a grade-point average (GPA) over 3.0 in the Spring 2020 semester, and every team concluded the 2019-20 academic year with a team GPA higher than 3.0.

"I'm extremely proud of our student-athletes for their academic performance this semester, particularly given the challenges presented with online learning," Director of Student-Athlete Enhancement
Alyssa Gates said. "They persevered during difficult times that included illness, loss, and uncertainty all while changing their approach to learning. Student-athletes are known for their ability to adapt and adjust in a game situation and they certainly did that this spring in the virtual classroom!"

- The cumulative grade-point average for the Athletics Department was 3.493.
- Of Marist's 23 programs, 14 had a GPA over 3.5.
- The top overall team GPA was earned by men's tennis (3.832). The top women's team GPA was volleyball (3.817).
- The percentage of student-athletes was at least a 3.0 GPA was 86, and 60 percent topped 3.5.
- Three student-athletes (Rebekah Hand, women's basketball; Claire Oberdorf, softball; Calista Phippen, softball) were named College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District. This brings the Red Foxes' total to nine overall for the 2019-20 school year, with cross country/track & field slated to be announced this afternoon.
