POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced the results for the Women's Rowing preseason poll on Friday morning. The Red Foxes were projected to finish in first place for the upcoming season, receiving 97 first place votes, as voted upon by the league's 10 head coaches.
Marist Women's Rowing successfully defended its title and won the 2021 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship last season.
The Red Foxes secured their second consecutive title, sweeping the Varsity 4, Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8 Grand Finals for 54 points. This was Marist's 12th title in program history. Additionally, the Red Foxes concluded a season unlike any other with a historic finish claiming the 2021 NCAA Championships at Nathan Benderson Park.
For the 2021 season, Head Coach/Director of Rowing
Tom Sanford was named MAAC Coach of the Year. It is his second-career honor after winning the award in 2019. Under Sanford's direction, Marist has won eight MAAC championships.
Marist continues its run of maintaining a top-three finish in the MAAC Championships since its inception in 1997. For 21 straight years, the Red Foxes have finished in the top two.
