Baseball Uses Clutch Hits and Pitching to Take Down Fordham

Red Foxes Win First Game of Three Game Series

NEW YORK, New York - The Marist baseball team used an 11th-inning rally to defeat Fordham in extra innings on Friday afternoon in game one of a three game series.

Summary
  • Reece Armitage got the scoring started in the top of the first, doubling to score Gene Napolitano. Dylan Hoy then hit a sacrifice fly to give the Red Foxes a 2-0 lead early. 
  • Dylan Hoy collected his second RBI of the day in the top of the third, extending the Red Foxes lead to 3-0. 
  • Freshman Jack Bowery cruised through the first four innings, allowing only two hits and one run.
  • Fordham got back within one run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home-run.
  • Nick Cantone came in relief in the bottom of the fifth to shut down the Fordham rally, but Fordham kept their hot bats going in the sixth inning plating two runs on three hits and an error.
  • With the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the 8th, Nathan Lincoln worked a walk to tie the game.
  • In the top of the 11th inning, the Red Fox bats exploded for six runs on five hits, highlighted by a clutch RBI-single from Ethan Farino, and an RBI-double from Marco Ali. 
  • Fordham got two hits in the bottom of the 11th, but Cantone closed the door on the rally to secure the 10-4 win.
Stats
  • Bowery went 4.1 innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits. 
  • Cantone got the win in relief, pitching 6.2 innings while only allowing two earned runs. The graduate student also struck out five Rams hitters.
  • Marist got 10 runs on twelve hits, including four doubles. 
  • Reece Armitage doubled twice on his way to a 3-hit afternoon.
  • Ali and Gavin Noriega also doubled.
  • Fordham left 10 runners on base in defeat.
