Baseball Falls to Fairfield in Home Opener

Red Foxes Lose in Extra Innings

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist baseball team fell short in their conference opener against Fairfield on Friday by a final score of 13-10 in 11 innings.

Summary
  • In the top of the first, a Stags' home run gave them an early 4-0 lead.
  • A Brian Hart single, followed by two straight walks, squeaked a run across for Marist in the home half of the second.
  • In the bottom of the third, Robbie Armitage doubled down the left field line to make it a 5-3 deficit. Following an error, an RBI single from Donnie Stone, and an RBI single from Peter Dudunakis, Marist took a 6-5 lead heading into the fourth inning.
  • Fairfield's second home run of the day gave the Stags an 8-6 lead in the top of fourth.
  • Pinch-hitter Ethan Farino executed a bunt perfectly in the bottom of the fourth, scoring Gavin Noriega. Donnie Stone later singled to give Marist a 9-8 lead.
  • In the top of the sixth, Fairfield capitalized on timely hitting to regain the lead, 10-9.
  • Things remained squared at ten until the top of the 11th, when Fairfield was able to tack on three runs. 
  • Nick Grabek closed the game out for Fairfield, who held onto win 13-10.
