Baseball Drops Series Finale At Abilene Christian

Red Foxes Lose a Tight Matchup

ABILENE, Texas - The Marist baseball team lost the final game of their series at Abilene Christian this afternoon by a final score of 10-8.

  • After retiring the Red Foxes in order in the top of the first, the Abilene Christian Wildcats scratched the first run of the game across on a sacrifice fly.
  • Marist responded with their largest inning of the series in the top of the second to take a 6-1 lead. Brian Hart and Gene Napolitano both doubled , while Ethan Farino and Robbie Armitage each singled to take the games largest lead.
  • The wild second inning continued in the bottom half, with Abilene Christian plating seven runs on five hits, including two home runs. 
  • The Red Foxes would take advantage of Hart's second double of the day in the top of the third, followed by a Dylan Hoy double to drive him in. The Wildcats regained their two run lead with back-to-back hits in the bottom half of the inning, sending the game to the fourth inning at 9-7.
  • Both teams went scoreless in the fourth and fifth inning, before each trading a run in the sixth. Robbie Armitage picked up another RBI in the top half of the inning to bring the Red Foxes within one, but the Wildcats answered with an RBI-single to take a 10-8 lead. 
  • Despite Alex Pansini's eight strikeout effort in relief, the Red Foxes were unable to get anything going offensively in the final three innings of the game,falling by a final score of 10-8.
STATS
  • Brian Hart, Marco Ali, and Robbie Armitage each had two hits on the afternoon.
  • Robbie Armitage (3) and Gene Napolitano (2) combined for five RBI's in defeat.
  • Pansini, Zane Kmietek, and Jack Bowery pitched solid in relief, allowing just two total earned runs and striking out ten batters.
  • Hunter Gieser and Grayson Tatrow both homered to lead the Wildcats offense.
  • Adam Byrd pitched two perfect innings in relief, allowing zero hits and picking up two strikeouts.

  • Marist falls to 4-4 on the season. 
  • Abilene Christian improves to 7-4.
