The Red Foxes Conclude Murphy Cup

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania - Marist women's rowing traveled to Philadelphia, PA this past weekend to compete at the 39th Annual Murphy Cup, hosted by Temple University. The women traveled with the 1st and 2nd varsity 8s as well as a novice 4+.

Summary
  • The Varsity 8 consisted of coxswain Katie Moody, Summer Starrett, Lydia Giguere, Natalia Miklos, Emma Jauch, Kassie Nicholson, Gabby Insero, Lauren Muhr, and Ashley Surette. In the morning heat, this crew finished fourth in a time of 6:34. Temple cruised in at 6:24, followed by St. Joes and Lehigh in 6:28 and 6:29 respectively. In the afternoon petite final, the varsity improved upon it's start and middle move and fought down the course in a very tight race, but came out at the bottom end of 4 boats all finishing within one second of each other. Lehigh 6;37.2, Jefferson 6:37.9, FFD 6:38.2 and Marist 6:38.6. Six weeks until championship weekend with experience and speed to be gained and some fuel added to the fire!
  • The second varsity 8 consisted of coxswain Abigail Cieplinski/Catie Stiffler, Avalon Johnson, Elizabeth Kelly, Caroline Voorhis, Genevieve Anderson, Jennifer Liguori, Molly O'Donoghue, Rebecca Paul and Hilary Anderson. This crew finished 2nd in its heat by a mere .2 seconds to WVU. In the grand final, our second varsity was persistent and finished fifth overall with a time of 7:01. Temple was 6:45, GU 6:54, UMass 6:57 and UDel 6:58.
  • The Novice/Frosh 4 consisted of coxswain Phoebe Castellano, Casey Hodge, Jessica Zygmunt, Alexandra Gibeault and Emily Liguori. This lineup was put together the day before the race and did a fantastic job by winning their morning heat by 11 seconds over Lehigh. Then, the novice 4 had the best result of our three crews, earning a silver medal by finishing second in the grand final, just 2 seconds behind first place, Lafayette!
