WORCESTER, Massachusetts - Marist women's rowing traveled to Worcester, Massachusetts on Sunday to race at the Women's Sprints . The women traveled with the 1st and 2nd varsity 8s and the Varsity 4.  The race format was heats and finals in all events. Top two in each heat progressed to the grand final, third and fourth to the petite final and fifth and sixth in each heat to the third level final.

Summary
V8 Results
  • In the morning heats, the V8 placed fourth with a time of 6:48.06, two seconds ahead of Cornell, which earned this crew a place in the petite final, vying for a top 12 finish. Our 2V8 placed fifth in the heat with a time of 7:18.07 as did the V4 in its heat in a time of 8:17.08. These finishes placed the V8 into the petite final with Georgetown, Columbia, BU, Dartmouth and URI, the 2V into the third final with Georgetown, Colgate and Holy Cross and the V4 into the third final with Temple, Colgate and Holy Cross.
V4 Results
  • The finals began four hours after the heats with the V4 leading off the afternoon events. The slight morning tailwind for the heats had reversed to a moderate headwind for the afternoon finals, and this extended the times of each final for all crews when compared to the heat times.  Our V4 raced down the course in a time of 8:34.8, 5 seconds behind Colgate and ahead of Holy Cross by almost 15 seconds for a final placement of 15th in the event, where they had been seeded coming into the event.
2V8 Results
  • Next up, was our 2V8. This crew also fought its way down the course against the moderate headwind to a second-place finish in a time of 7:33.3, 5 seconds behind Georgetown. It also placed us four seconds ahead of Colgate and more comfortably over Holy Cross. This crew finished 14th in the event after being seeded 15th
  • In the final race of the day for Marist, our V8 raced to a time of 7:18.4. This crew learned more about the importance of having to race aggressively in all conditions and came out of the day a better crew for it. Heading into the regatta this crew was seeded 15th and ended up 12th overall, after accomplishing its goal of making the second level final by knocking out the higher seeded Cornell crew in the heat. The third final consisted of Cornell, BC, Colgate and Holy Cross.
