HIGH POINT, North Carolina - After a week of training in Clemson, SC, Marist Women's Rowing traveled to High Point, NC on Saturday to open up the Spring Season against High Point University and Colgate University. Marist boated a 1V8, 2V8, Varsity 4, 3V8, and 4V8.
The 1st Varsity 8+ consisted of coxswain

Kaleigh Tompkins. This crew kept a tight race with the competition through the first 500m, where the three boats were dead even. The crew from Colgate rowed a clean race, creating separation during the remaining 1500m, while the Red Foxes fought hard with HPU, with the Panthers gaining the edge at the end.
Final Results: COLGATE 6:50.05, HPU 6:59.1, MARIST 7:03.6
The 2nd Varsity 8+ consisted of coxswain

Anna Fedders,

Jennifer Liguori,
Rebecca Paul, and
Emily Liguori. This crew lead from start to finish, putting their bow in front at the start and continuing to gain distance on their competitors throughout the race. The Red Foxes executed their race plan and was happy to see their hard work from the week pay off.

The Varsity 4+ consisted of coxswain

Nora Messer, and
Jenna Jaffe. Through the first 500m the Red Foxes had fallen down a length on HPU but refused to back down. They were able to walk it back even with the lead crew and overtake the lead by the 1500m mark. This crew is proud that they didn't back down and stayed confident in their racing abilities.

The 3rd Varsity 8+ for the morning race consisted of coxswain

Thirteen Red Foxes in these crews are novice rowers and have never raced a 2K before, and were excited for the opportunity to display their hard work in the warm weather and sunshine. The 3V8+ got ahead at the start and kept the lead for the full 2000m, but the 4V8+ never backed down and fought a hard race that kept everyone pushing.

Our Spring Training trip was very productive, and all rowers were able to gain valuable racing experience that ended the week on a high note. The team is excited to return home and continue to gain speed as the season continues.
