EMMITSBURG, Maryland – The Marist University baseball team earned an 8-3 win in the finale of a three-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series at Mount St. Mary's on Saturday.
With the victory, the Red Foxes took two out of three in the weekend set.
- Noel Rivera belted a home run to lead off the game and open the scoring.
- Zach Donahue came home on an error, which put Marist up 2-0 in the third.
- Mount scored on a groundout in the bottom of the third, Rivera's triple in the fourth brought home Scott Esposito, and gave Marist a two-run lead back.
- Nathan Lincoln's solo homer extended Marist's advantage to 4-1 in the fourth, but Mateo Zeppieri's two-run homer cut the Red Foxes' lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the inning.
- The score remained 4-3 until the ninth, when the Red Foxes tacked on four runs. Donahue delivered an RBI double, Esposito had an RBI single, and Jason Claiborn and AJ Brotz drew back-to-back bases loaded walks.
- Marist outhit Mount, 12-6. Rivera went 3-for-5 with a homer, triple, two RBIs, run scored, stolen base, and walk.
- Brotz, Lincoln, and Donahue had two hits apiece. Donahue and Esposito both scored two runs.
- Marist utilized five pitchers. Jake Burt started and had three strikeouts in 2.2. Ryan VanDeWater (4-2) earned the win with 2.1 innings of relief. Ty Morris (1.2 innings), Bobby LeFevre (1.0), and Andrew Speranza (1.1) all had scoreless outings. Speranza struck out three.
- Marist is 16-19 overall and 9-7 in the MAAC.
- Mount St. Mary's is 15-23 this season and 8-10 in conference play.
- Marist hosts Rider for a three-game series next weekend.
- The series opens on Friday at 3 p.m. at McCann Baseball Field.
