HAMDEN, Conn. - The Marist University women's tennis team competed at the Metro Masters hosted by Quinnipiac this weekend, highlighted by a semifinal appearance from junior Viktoria Lorentzon.
Lorentzon opened the tournament with a straight-set victory over Siena in the Round of 32, 7-6(9-7), 6-0. She followed with a statement win in the Round of 16, defeating No. 1 seed Ava Nelson of Sacred Heart, 6-3, 7-6(7-5).
In the quarterfinals, Lorentzon battled past Iona, 6-3, 5-7, [10-8], to advance to the semifinals before seeing her run come to an end.
Senior Caterina Assi also advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Siena in the Round of 16, 5-7, 6-4, [10-2], before falling to Fairfield in the next round.
The doubles pairing of Lorentzon and sophomore Yasmin Asnis opened the tournament with a 6-1 victory over Merrimack in the Round of 32 before falling to Quinnipiac in the Round of 16.
