Women’s Lacrosse Drops Home Contest to Columbia

Pirozzi Scores Four Goals for Third Time This Season

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist University women's lacrosse team fell to Columbia, 12-9, on Saturday evening at Tenney Stadium.

Sophomore midfielder Amelia Pirozzi led the Red Foxes with four goals. Senior attack Jesse Manger recorded two goals and two assists, while senior captain midfielder Caitlin McNaboe added two goals. Junior attack Kathryn Staker scored once for Marist.

The Red Foxes drop to 1-5 on the season,, while the Lions improve to 3-1.

FIRST QUARTER
  • Marist opened the scoring as Pirozzi found the back of the net at 13:37.
  • Manger converted a free-position opportunity at 11:23, and McNaboe followed at 10:30 off an assist from Staker to give Marist a 3-0 lead.
  • Manger added her second goal at 7:48 as the Red Foxes built a 4-0 advantage.
  • Columbia closed the quarter with a goal in the final minute to cut the deficit to 4-1.
SECOND QUARTER
  • The Lions scored at 12:21 and added a free-position goal at 5:54 to even the game at 4-4.
  • Columbia followed with a woman-up goal at 5:20 and another in the final minute to take a 5-4 lead into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
  • Columbia extended its lead early in the third with a free-position goal at 14:05.
  • Pirozzi answered at 12:46 to cut the deficit to 6-5, but the Lions scored three in a row to push the margin to 9-5.
  • McNaboe scored at 9:07 off an assist from Manger, and Pirozzi added her third goal of the evening at 2:26 to make it 9-7.
  • Staker found the back of the net with 47 seconds remaining to pull Marist within one at 9-8 entering the fourth.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • Columbia scored three straight goals to extend its lead to 12-8.
  • Pirozzi completed her four-goal performance at 3:44 off an assist from Manger, but the Lions secured the 12-9 victory.
UP NEXT
  • The Red Foxes travel to the West Coast over spring break for games at UC Davis on March 13 and at California on March 16.
