Marist Water Polo Comes Up Short in the MAAC Championship
POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist Water Polo comes up short in the MAAC Championship match, losing to Wagner, 14-13, in an overtime thriller. The Red Foxes season comes to an end as they finished the regular season 24-5.
 
Kednell De Beer led the charge with six goals in the match, while four other Red Foxes also found the back of the net with at least one goal apiece.
 
SUMMARY
  • Marist took an early lead, scoring three goals in the first quarter while only allowing one goal to Wagner.
  • In the second quarter the Seahawks fought right back to bring it within one to trail 5-4 going into halftime.
  • After the half the Red Foxes regained control and scored another four goals to make it 9-7 going into the fourth quarter.
  • It was a back and forth battle in the fourth and Wagner managed to tie things up and send the game into overtime.
  • In the first overtime half both teams would fight hard to score one goal and leave it tied.
  • Once again both teams found the back of the net once to keep the game tied at 13 headed into second overtime.
  • The Wager Seahawks would capitalize and score the winning goal in the second overtime to win the match by a final score of 14-13.
 
The Red Foxes finish the season falling short in the MAAC Championship. In the regular season they went 24-5 overall and had an outstanding 8-0 conference record. In the MAAC Tournament they beat La Salle in round one before losing to Wagner in the title match.
