POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Freshman Sean Galvin made an immediate impact in his collegiate debut, taking first place in the Marist men's cross country season opener Friday at the Vassar Farm and Ecological Preserve.

Galvin covered the 6-kilometer course in 19:31.0 to lead the Red Foxes individually in the season-opening race.

Sophomore Chase Kober also turned in a strong performance, surging over the second half of the race to finish fifth overall in 19:50.8. Matthew Ferreri crossed the finish line 14th in 20:20.2, followed by Pierce Francis in 19th at 20:27.9. Kaleb Stoeckmann rounded out Marist's scoring five with a 25th-place finish in 20:58.0.

The Red Foxes finished fourth in the team standings with 62 points. Fairfield claimed the team title with 47 points, followed by Siena (52) and Albany (60).

Friday's race featured 30 finishers, with Marist competing a partial squad of five runners.
