The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026 at the McCann Center in conjunction with Homecoming & Reunion Weekend. The first inductees will have plaques installed and will be part of an enduring annual tradition that pays tribute to Marist's best athletic performers.

Jack Gartland

In 1999, Marist President Dr. Dennis Murray stated, “No volunteer has done more for students, faculty, and alumni of our college than Jack Gartland.”

Gartland was elected chairman of Marist’s first lay advisory board in 1956. He became a member of the Board of Trustees in 1969, served as chairman from 1972-74, and was elected Life Trustee in 1999.

Gartland served as Chair of Buildings & Grounds Committee for 20 years, which oversaw the design and development of the campus. This time saw the construction or renovation of nearly every building on campus.

Gartland served as President of the James J. McCann Charitable Trust. In this role, he secured millions of dollars in foundation grants to support the expansion and enhancement of campus. This included the McCann Center building (1977) and addition (1997), opening of Gartland Athletic Commons (1990), and building of McCann Baseball Field (1991).

Jack Gartland passed away on Aug. 24, 2003 at the age of 89.

In 2007, Giorgis became first MAAC coach (women’s or men’s) to lead a team to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. He earned five NCAA Tournament wins in his tenure, with four as a double-digit seed.

Giorgis won 463 games in his 21 seasons at the helm, including two seasons of 30+ wins. He guided Marist to a program-record 32 wins in 2007-08, and 31 in 2010-11. The Red Foxes reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament in both seasons.

Giorgis’ teams posted a perfect 18-0 record in MAAC regular-season play three times: 2007-08, 2010-11, and 2012-13.

In 2013, Giorgis was selected to be an assistant coach for Team USA in the World University Games. Team USA captured the gold medal.
