2014-15: Finished seventh in the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.92) and ninth in the 100-yard event (52.54 seconds) at the MAAC Championships... Also competed in the 500-yard freestyle... Competed in five events at the ECAC Championships: 50-, 100-, and 200-yard backstroke, 200- and 500-yard freestyle... Placed first in the 100-yard backstroke (57.63 seconds) and 500-yard freestyle (4:55.97) vs. Fairfield... Finished third in the 500-yard freestyle vs. Binghamton.

2013-14: Finished eighth in the 200-yard backstroke at the MAAC Championships... Competed in the 100-yard backstroke and 500-yard freestyle at the MAAC Championships... Finished 12th in the 100-yard backstroke (52.10 seconds) and 15th in the 200-yard backstroke (1:54.25) at the ECAC Championships... Also competed in the 500-yard freestyle... Placed third in the 500-yard freestyle at Seton Hall (4:55.27).

2012-13: Finished 18th in the preliminaries of the 200-yard backstroke at the ECAC Championships… Finished 10th in the 200-yard backstroke at the MAAC championships.

Prior to Marist: McCarthy competed as a freshman at the University of Delaware during the 2011-12 season. He was a four-year letter winner at Bishop Shanahan High School and received honors as an All-Ches-Mont League First Team performer in 2011. McCarthy earned All-State honors in the 100-yard backstroke was part of the All-State 200-yard freestyle relay team.

Personal: Son of John and Jeanne McCarthy... Has two siblings: older brother, Matthew, who swam for Delaware, and a younger sister, Meghan.
