Biography
2011-12: In his first MAAC Championships, Collins qualified for finals in all three distance freestyle events. His ninth-place finish in the 1,000-yard event (9:45.88) highlighted his performances. He nearly tied his brother Danny, who finished at 9:45.87... Placed 15th in the 500- (4:48.95) and the 1650- (16:25.89) yard freestyle events... At the ECAC Championships, he participated in 500- and 1,650-yd freestyle races, finishing at 4:55.50 and 17:04.18 respectively.
Prior to Marist: Matt Collins joined the Red Foxes from Townsend Harris High School in Queens, N.Y. He is the brother of current Red Fox swimmer Daniel Collins. Matt has been a member of the YMCA/US Flushing Flyers Swim Team for eight seasons. He competed at the YMCA Short Course Nationals for the past four years and earned YMCA All-American honors twice. He posted three National YMCA Swimming Top Times: 100- and 1,000-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. In 2007 and 2008 Matt competed at the Empire State Games where he won two gold medals and one silver medal.
