Chuck Williams '99

11397 Chuck Williams is Associate Head Coach, Women's Cross Country/Track & Field at Marist. Williams is in his 15th year in charge of the women’s distance running program in 2023. However, his affiliation and impact on the Marist track and cross country program dates back several decades, to when he first entered Marist as a freshman distance runner in the fall of 1995.

Since his graduation from Marist in 1999, Williams has remained affiliated with the track and cross country programs – first, as an assistant in the sprint and field event areas, and more recently as the head coach of the women’s cross country team and the women’s distance runners in track. During his 20 years as an athlete and a coach, Williams has been part of the greatest teams in school history, and he has played a significant role in the development of the greatest athletes in school history – in both men’s and women’s track and field, and in the women’s distance events.

“If you look at our school record board, virtually all those records were set, broken or re-broken with the direct guidance of Chuck,’’ Director of Track/Cross Country Pete Colaizzo said. “The range of success he has had as a coach is truly remarkable. He is a vital member of our track family, and of our athletic department in general.’’

Since taking the reins of the women’s distance program in the fall of 2008, the women’s cross country team has enjoyed unprecedented success on the conference and regional level. On the track, all of the women’s distance records have been broken and re-broken under his expert tutelage. Williams has been particularly skilled at recruiting and attracting some of the best regional running talent to the Poughkeepsie campus. “Chuck is a great recruiter, and an equally adept developer of talent,’’ Colaizzo said. “Our women’s distance program has grown leaps and bounds with him at the helm.’’
