Tyrell Walden-Martin

Tyrell Walden-Martin joined the Marist Athletics staff in December 2023 and serves as the Associate Director of Sports Information and Social Media Coordinator. 

In his current role, Walden serves as the primary contact for the Red Foxes’ 11-time MAAC champion women’s basketball, four-time MAAC champion men’s lacrosse, and one-time MAAC Champion women's soccer programs. Leading the charge in the Sports Information office with a heavy focus on creative content for social media audiences, Walden-Martin is responsible for arranging and organizing the exposure of all Marist College athletics teams, student-athletes, coaches, and staff members through GoRedFoxes.com, social media platforms, and external media.

Walden-Martin rejoined the Quinnipiac Athletics staff in October 2021 and served as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. An alum of QU, he previously served as a Graduate Assistant in the Athletic Communications office in 2016 commencing his seven-year collegiate athletics career.

While at Quinnipiac, Walden-Martin was the primary contact for the Bobcats’ five-time MAAC champion women’s golf, four-time MAAC champion women’s basketball, one-time MAAC champion women’s volleyball, field hockey and baseball programs while also assisting the department’s social media marketing efforts. He also served as Quinnipiac’s co-chair for its United Way Campaign with the City of New Haven.

Before returning to Hamden, Walden-Martin held the title of Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at the University of Hartford, spanning two years, beginning in October 2019. There, he spearheaded the media relations for then-Division I women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, women’s golf, and baseball programs. As an integral member of the department’s Athletics External Relations team, Walden-Martin guided dynamic direction in bridging athletics leaders and coaches to contemporary and emerging digital graphic design and social media strategies popularized amongst the student-athlete and student body demographics. Moreover, he provided a conduit for the Hawks communications for the America East, NCAA, and other collegiate sports information offices.

Before arriving in the state’s capital, Walden-Martin spent a little over a year at Sacred Heart University as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications starting in 2018. With the Pioneers, he served as the primary contact for men’s basketball, men’s and women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s golf, baseball, women’s field hockey, women’s bowling and women’s rowing while providing secondary support for 20 additional sports and statistical provision for six teams. Walden-Martin launched and operated the first-ever men’s basketball Twitter account while aiding in the promotion of the athletics main account on each major digital media platform. Under his management, the Sacred Heart Athletics account landed top-five in FCS main athletics Instagram interactions in 2018 via Skull Sparks.

Walden-Martin’s experience extends beyond collegiate athletics and includes a stop at NBC Sports. There, he served as Mobile Content Producer for its Olympics web platform in 2016 and was a 2016 Emmy Awards honoree, winning Outstanding Trans-Media Sports Coverage- “Games of the XXI Olympiad”. He also serves in primary statistician capacity for the Westchester Knicks, the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks.

A 2016 graduate of QU, the Bronx, NY-native graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism while minoring in Sociology. Walden-Martin currently resides in Poughkeepsie with his six-year-old dog, Blu.
