Ashley Johnson completed her second season as the women’s lacrosse assistant coach at Marist College in 2015. Previously, she was the first assistant coach at Wagner College for three seasons.
During Marist's 2015 campaign, Johnson led a Red Fox offense that led the MAAC in assists per game (5.00), was second in points per game (15.12) and third in goals per game (10.12). Marist's leading scorer for the season, Allison Gionta, finished seventh in the nation, averaging 4.38 points per game.
En route to its first MAAC regular season championsip in program history in 2014, Johnson coached a Red Fox offense to the 11th best winning percentage in the nation and top of the MAAC. Marist's offense averaged 12.11 goals per game, finishing second in conference. Marist also finished second in the MAAC with 307 total points.
Johnson recruited or coached seven student-athletes who currently rank in the top 10 in seven different statistical categories for Wagner and four who earned spots on All-NEC Postseason Teams. She coached 12 IWLCA Academic Honor Roll athletes with a 3.5 GPA or higher and 27 different athletes who earned academic honors from the NEC for having a 3.2 GPA or higher.
In 2013, Wagner received the NEC Women’s Lacrosse Sportsmanship Award in a vote that was conducted among each NEC team’s coaches and captains.
In 2012 Johnson helped secure the largest recruiting class in Wagner's history, bringing in 12 impactful players. One student-athlete claimed two NEC All Conference awards as well as nationwide recognition. She also helped guide the Seahawks to a 7-10 record, recording the most wins since 2005 and marking just the seventh time in program history that Wagner has won seven or more games. In addition, the 2012 and 2013 seasons represent the third and fourth most single-season wins as Wagner followed up its seven-win season in 2012 with six victories in 2013.
Johnson, who earned her M.B.A. in Management from Wagner in 2012 and Bachelor of Arts from Mount Saint Mary’s College in May 2010, was honored as an NEC First-Team attacker in 2010 and was an All-NEC First Team midfielder in 2008. She was named NEC Player of the Week in February 2009 and held a captain’s position as a senior during the 2010 season.
Johnson is originally from Arvada, Colo., and currently resides in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
