Dave Scarcello was named head coach of the Marist men's lacrosse program on July 10, 2024.

Scarcello was initially hired as an assistant coach at his alma mater on June 2, 2018. He was promoted to associate head coach in October of 2023. The 2025 season marks his seventh season on the Marist coaching staff, and his first as head coach.

Scarcello had a role in all three Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championships won by his predecessor, Keegan Wilkinson, in his 13-year tenure as head coach. Scarcello was named Most Outstanding Player of the 2015 MAAC Championship, when he was the Red Foxes’ starting goalie. He was on Wilkinson’s staff for Marist’s MAAC championships in 2019 and 2023.

Scarcello served as the Red Foxes’ defensive coordinator from 2019-22, and he became offensive coordinator in 2023. In his time as defensive coordinator, he coached a MAAC major award winner (JT Roselle, Long Stick Midfielder of the Year), three First Team All-MAAC selections (Roselle, Kyle Stofko, James Sarrocco), and two Second Team All-MAAC selections (Kurt Wessner, Matthew Selts). In 2023 as offensive coordinator, Jojo Pirreca was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight year as the Red Foxes set a conference record for goals scored in a season with 242. Marist also set a program single-game record with 29 goals in its conference quarterfinal victory over Quinnipiac, which was the highest total in an NCAA game in a quarter century.

In Scarcello’s tenure as an assistant, Marist has a 20-5 record (.800 winning percentage) in MAAC regular-season play. The Red Foxes have won three MAAC regular-season championships, made two NCAA Tournament appearances, and hosted an NCAA game in 2019. The Red Foxes defeated #9/#7 Army in 2020, which is the highest-ranked team Marist has defeated in program history.

Scarcello presented at the Intercollegiate Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) convention in 2020, and he was included in a group of presentations with other Division I coaches in 2021 that drew nearly 200,000 views online. He has been a positive force in the academic development of his student-athletes, as six have earned Scholar All-American honors.

As a student-athlete, Scarcello was a three-year starter in goal as well as a two-year captain for the Red Foxes. In his senior year, he was named a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-American and earned the Pizzani Award at Marist’s Senior Awards Banquet. Scarcello was presented with the number 34 in memory of Eddie Coombs, and he was the first player in program history to receive the honor of wearing 34 for an entire season. After winning the MAAC championship, Marist earned its first NCAA win in program history with an opening round triumph over Bryant.

Scarcello began his coaching career at Concordia University Wisconsin, where he worked as an assistant coach in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Serving as defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator, the Falcons went 25-11 in his two years, and won the first regular-season championship in program history in 2017.

In 2018, Scarcello was an assistant coach at VMI, where he was defensive coordinator and worked with the Keydets’ goalies. VMI ranked fifth nationally in caused turnovers per game, with two Keydets finishing in the top six nationally.

A Buffalo native, Scarcello earned his undergraduate degree from Marist in 2015 and majored in Business Administration. He earned his Master of Business Administration from Concordia University Wisconsin in 2017.
