January 18, 2001 -- Nine student-athletes, representing seven varsity programs from Marist College, achieved a perfect Fall 2000 grade point average of 4.000, highlighting the recent academic accomplishments by students involved with intercollegiate activities at the college.
Over 51 percent of Marists student-athletes attained a semester GPA of 3.0 and above, while 24 percent will make the Deans List for receiving a 3.4 or higher for their work in the classroom this past fall. The Marist College student-athlete body, comprised of 523 members of the Marist community, combined for a semester grade point average of 3.03.
"Marist strives to see its student-athletes succeed not only on the playing field, but also in the classroom," said Director of Athletics, Tim Murray. "Our athletes should be very proud of their academic accomplishments this semester."
Heather Bachman (womens crew), Grace LaFemina (womens track), Adam Leonard (mens crew), Robert McGuinness (mens cross-country), Katie Mary OConnor (womens soccer), Kerri Lynn Raviart (womens crew), Gregory Salamone (mens track), Viktor Sapezhnikov (mens tennis), and Jennifer Stewart (womens track) each received perfect semester marks.
Additionally, 26 student-athletes from Marists fall programs (football, volleyball, mens/womens soccer and mens/ womens cross-country) were honored with MAAC All-Academic accolades. In order to be eligible for the conferences All-Academic Team, student-athletes must attain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above, while serving as a significant starter or reserve for their sport.
Marist College is a Division I institution supporting 23 varsity sports. Spring semester classes begin on Wednesday, January 17th, 2001.
