Poughkeepsie, NY---The Marist College men's soccer team (6-5-0, 1-3-0) was defeated, 1-0, this afternoon, in a match against Fairfield University.
The last time the Red Foxes played the Stags was in the championship game of the 2000 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament. Marist defeated Fairfield 3-2, in double overtime. The victory advanced the Red Foxes to the NCAA Tournament.
The lone goal of this afternoon's match was scored in the first half by Fairfield's Justin Thompson, with an assist by Bryan Harkin, at 23:30.
Senior goalkeeper Carlos DeBrito (Union, NJ), had an excellent afternoon in the net, with eight saves in his 90 minutes of play, raising him to an average of 7.45 saves per game. As of October 10th, DeBrito was second in the nation in this category, averaging 7.40.
The Red Foxes will next take on the Broncs of Rider University, Friday, October 19th, at 8:00 pm on Leonidoff Field, in a double header with the women's team who takes on Niagara University at 6:00 pm.
