Fairfield, Conn. - The Marist College Women's soccer team improved to 6-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference after defeating host Fairfield 2-1 today. The win improved the Red Foxes to 6-7 overall on the season and dropped Fairfield to 10-3 overall and 5-2 in the MAAC.
Senior Kasey Sibrinsz (Manchester, Conn.) scored the game winning goal for the Red Foxes at 88:42 off an assist from junior Jenny Shanks (Sound Beach, NY). Marist had led the majority of the game before Fairfield tied the game at 1-1 off a header by Julie Anne Forman at 88:10. Sibrinsz then found the net on a header 30 seconds later to avoid overtime and send the Red Foxes to victory.
The Red Foxes had taken a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute when freshman Laura Clark (Syracuse, NY) found the back of the net off assists from freshman Libby Ludwig (Commack, NY) and Shanks.
Despite holding a 17-9 edge in shots and controlling the ball for most of the second half, Fairfield saw few good scoring opportunities from the stingy Red Fox defense.
Junior goalkeeper Mellanie Nai (Suffield, Conn.) had another solid game in the net for Marist turning away nine shots. Dana Comuniello made 3 saves in the game for Fairfield.
The Red Foxes, who have now won four games in a row, will play host to Niagara in the first game of a double header with the men this Friday, October 19th at 6:00 PM. They will be in action on Leonidoff Field again this Sunday, October 21st when they face Canisius.
