Marist Defeated by Niagara in Volleyball

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College volleyball team lost a 3-1 decision to Niagara today at the McCann Center. The Red Foxes dropped the first two sets 30-22 and 30-26 before they rallied to win the third game 30-27. Niagara jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the decisive fourth game before Marist battled back to cut the deficit to 16-11. The Red Foxes would get no closer as they fell by a final of 30-17.

Marist received double-double efforts from senior Julie Gosewisch (Severna Park, MD) who had 16 kills and 17 digs and from freshman Aline dos Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) who recorded 13 kills and 10 digs while hitting .414 on the day

Gosewisch became the career dig leader at Marist in the second game when she passed Mary Beth Horman and Julee Cerda. She now has 766 career digs passing the old mark of 751 set by both Horman and Cerda.

Julie Scuderi led the Niagara attack with 15 kills and 12 digs. The Purple Eagles also received 13 kills and 9 digs from Jessica Mcandrew.

The Red Foxes will be back in action tomorrow when they welcome Canisius to the McCann Center at 1:00 PM. They will also be playing at home this Wednesday, October 24th at 7:00 PM when they host Long Island.
