Volleyball Loses to Canisius in Five Sets

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College volleyball team dropped a five set match 3-2 to Canisius today in the McCann Center. Marist lost the first game 30-24 and then came back to tie the match at 1-1 with a 30-22 win in the second game. Canisius held a 2-1 advantage after taking the third game 30-26 before the Red Foxes came back once again by winning the fourth game 30-25. Marist was ahead 5-2 early in the final game, but was unable to seal the win as Canisius rallied for a 15-12 win to take the match 3-2.

The Red Fox attack was paced by a season high 20 kills from freshman Aline dos Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) who also recorded 15 digs in the match. Marist also received great efforts from seniors Julie Gosewisch (Severna Park, MD) and Kelly Layden (Nutley, NJ). Gosewisch knocked down a season high 19 kills and had 12 digs while Layden had a .538 hitting percentage knocking down seven kills in 13 attempts to go with six blocks on the day.

Christina Wildes led Canisius with 15 kills and 17 digs and Kim Hoffman added 20 digs in the match for the Golden Griffs.

The Red Foxes will be back in action in the McCann Center again this week when they play host to Long Island University at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 24th.
