Red Foxes Have Win Streak Snapped by Siena in Women's Soccer

Loudonville, NY - The Marist College women's soccer team suffered its first loss in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference this year when they were beaten 2-0 by Siena today in Loudonville, NY. The loss snapped the Red Foxes school record six game win streak and put them at 8-8 overall this season.

The defenses of both Marist and Siena played well as each team only managed six shots a piece on goal. The game was scoreless until late in the second half when Nicole Orlandella scored in the 83rd minute to put Siena (10-6, 6-3) in front 1-0. Sarah Shumway added a goal in the 89th minute to provide the final margin.

MAAC player of the Week, freshman Libby Ludwig (Commack, NY) and senior Kasey Sibrinsz (Manchester, Conn.) led the Red Fox attack with two shots each. Junior goalkeeper Mellanie Nai (Suffield, Conn.) made two saves on the day, while Siena goalkeeper Noel Cox recorded three saves.

The Red Foxes finished the MAAC regular season at 8-1 and won their first regular season conference title in school history. They will be the top seed at the conference tournament next week in Orlando, FL.

Marist will close out the regular season this Friday, October 26th against Central Connecticut State at 6:00 PM. The Red foxes will have a ceremony honoring their seniors before the game. The 2001 MAAC Championships start on Tuesday, October 30th and will run through Saturday, November 3rd.
